What Is This Job About?

AssetWatch’s Cloud Engineering Support team is not a traditional help desk. It is an embedded engineering team that acts as a force multiplier for the broader engineering organisation — taking ownership of technical challenges that would otherwise distract product development teams, and turning them into solved problems through automation, process improvements, and engineering-led initiatives. As the manager of this team, you will be both a people leader and a hands-on technical contributor, balancing the dual demands of team development and technical execution with skill and focus.

Your team’s scope is broad and meaningful: performance monitoring, API stability improvements, technical debt elimination, architectural refinements, and the development of internal tooling and workflows that make the entire engineering organisation more efficient. You will work closely with engineering leadership to align your team’s priorities with company OKRs, manage backlogs and task boards in Jira, clear impediments, and ensure that every project your team owns is delivered on time and to quality. You will also contribute to cross-functional collaboration — connecting your team seamlessly with product, infrastructure, and business stakeholders across the organisation.

AssetWatch is a remote-first company in a phase of rapid growth, which means this role will evolve alongside the business. There is genuine opportunity to shape the structure, culture, and capability of the Cloud Engineering Support function as the company scales. If you are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment and wants to build something that matters, this is the role for you.

Salary and What You Can Earn

AssetWatch offers a competitive compensation package in line with senior engineering management roles at US-based technology companies. Based on comparable positions in the cloud and SaaS engineering management space, the estimated base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $160,000 per annum, depending on experience, technical depth, and leadership track record. This sits within typical market rates for engineering managers with full-stack and cloud infrastructure responsibilities at growth-stage technology companies.

In addition to base salary, AssetWatch offers stock options, giving you a meaningful stake in the company’s future success. Other benefits include unlimited paid time off, a flexible work schedule, comprehensive health and retirement benefits with an employer match, and the opportunity to work with a world-class team of engineers and business leaders who are passionate about transforming industrial maintenance. For the right candidate, the total compensation package is highly competitive with top-tier remote-first technology companies.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • You will recruit, guide, coach, and mentor engineers on the Cloud Engineering Support team, ensuring that all issues and projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the company’s quality standards.
  • You will collaborate closely with engineering leadership to understand and document technical issues and priorities, aligning your team’s work with broader engineering and business objectives.
  • You will act as the primary stakeholder manager for your team’s function, communicating progress, managing expectations, and ensuring that engineering leadership always has accurate visibility into support activities and outcomes.
  • You will own and optimise the team’s use of Atlassian Jira, including workflow management, automation configuration, backlog hygiene, and reporting to keep the team aligned and productive.
  • You will oversee task boards, workload planning, and sprint management, actively monitoring progress, removing blockers, and ensuring that support operations remain on track.
  • You will advocate for and implement best practices, continuous improvement initiatives, and new technology solutions that make the support function more efficient and scalable.
  • You will work cross-functionally across the organisation to drive inter-team collaboration, ensuring that communication between the support team and other engineering squads is seamless and effective.
  • You will set clear, OKR-aligned goals for your direct reports, hold the team accountable to agreed KPIs, and maintain a focus on employee satisfaction and team morale.
  • You will personally contribute to technical problem-solving — reviewing code, investigating performance issues, and diving into architectural challenges alongside your team when the situation demands it.
  • You will identify recurring technical issues or process inefficiencies, propose systemic improvements, and oversee their implementation to prevent future disruptions to engineering productivity.

How to Write a Strong Application

  • Demonstrate both leadership and technical depth: AssetWatch is explicit that this is a hands-on management role. Your application should show evidence of both — describe a team you have led and a technical challenge you personally solved in the same breath.
  • Quantify your Jira expertise: If you have implemented Jira automation workflows, built custom dashboards, or restructured a team’s board to improve visibility and throughput, describe this specifically. Jira fluency is listed as a core requirement and should feature prominently in your CV.
  • Lead with your React and database experience: The technical stack requirements are specific. State the years of React experience you have, the scale of the applications you have built, and the databases you have worked with, including the size and complexity of the datasets involved.
  • Highlight your AWS serverless experience: If you have worked with API Gateway, Lambda, or other AWS serverless components, make this a centrepiece of your technical skills section. This is a strongly preferred qualification that will set you apart from candidates without cloud experience.
  • Show your accountability culture: AssetWatch values people who hold themselves to high standards. In your cover letter, describe a situation where you set goals for your team, held them accountable, and drove a meaningful improvement in delivery quality or team performance.
  • Emphasise your remote work readiness: Mention specific tools, practices, and habits that make you an effective remote engineering leader — async communication, documentation practices, virtual team rituals, and time management strategies all signal that you are built for distributed work.
